The first suggestions I thought of were obvious things like Bradbury and Vonnegut, but they probably are already taught in some schools. Here's a list of suggested reading for high school students in addition to usual "classic" reading lists to expand their viewpoint. It's mostly YA, with a couple of adult novels and one graphic novel.

Top Ten Tuesday: Top Ten Books that should be taught.
