Waiting on Wednesday is hosted by Jill at Breaking the Spine.

This week I'm waiting on...

By Josephine Angelini
Publisher: Feiwel and Friends
Release Date: Sept. 2, 2014

Love burns. Worlds collide. Magic reigns.

This world is trying to kill Lily Proctor. Her life-threatening allergies keep her from enjoying many of the experiences that other teenagers take for granted...which is why she is determined to enjoy her first (and perhaps only) high-school party. But Lily's life never goes according to plan, and after a humiliating incident in front of half her graduating class Lily wishes she could just disappear.

Suddenly Lily is in a different Salem - one overrun with horrifying creatures and ruled by powerful women called Crucibles. Strongest and cruellest of all the Crucibles is Lillian . . . Lily's identical other self in this alternate universe. This new version of her world is terrifyingly sensual, and Lily is soon overwhelmed by new experiences.

Lily realizes that what makes her weak at home is exactly what makes her extraordinary in New Salem. It also puts her life in danger. Thrown into a world she doesn't understand, Lily is torn between responsibilities she can't hope to shoulder alone, and a love she never expected.

But how can Lily be the saviour of this world when she is literally her own worst enemy?

This book had me at "allergies". I often wonder why we have so few heroes or heroines inconvenienced by common things such as allergies or bad eyesight. One of the thoughts I have late at night is how I would never survive the zombie apocalypse because my eyesight is terrible without glasses/contacts. My cousin would not survive either as she is allergic to most foods. Anyway, this book sounds amazing.

Wow. Josephine Angelini's new series sounds awesome. It's like a mix between Alice in Wonderland and Red Unicorn by Tanith Lee (in which the heroines goes to a parallel world). The concept of women rulers called Crucibles is so cool...and the obvious allusions to The Crucible and the Salem Witch Trials...so cool. Super excited for this one!

Also, I totally get what you're saying about glasses/contacts falling off/out and then just being eaten by zombies. That's my legit worry for the zombie apocalypse. Did you ever see the first The Mummy movie with Brendan Fraser? If you have...then you totally know what scene I'm thinking about... (when that treasure hunter guy loses his glasses and then gets eaten by the mummy).

The Red Unicorn! That series is one of my favorites ever, I just loved Tanaquil and the somewhat melancholy tone. I have a thing for portal fantasies like Alice in Wonderland or the Narnia books. I agree, so many aspects of this book sound cool.

Yep, that's the fear. I will drop my glasses, there will be friend/zombie confusion then munching. The Mummy dude fate exactly.
