Oh I loved The Casual Vacancy but I've seen it on a lot of lists today! Such a shame!

Nice list. I feel the same way about Selection, Mara Dryer and Shatter Me. All 3 are on my TBR list but I have yet to request them from the library.

Maybe I won't write it off completely. I'm glad there are fans, it may be the case that I won't know if I like it until I read it.

I bought a copy of The Selection so I'll be reading that because I've already purchased it. As for The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer, I loved it! Really loved it. It was mind twisty and dark, which was not my genre at all but I wound up loving it! I hope one day you'll give it a try.

I loved TCV, I had no doubt in my mind when I bought it. I went into it eager and loved it, as did my mom who's not HP fan, has some weird Muggle feelings towards JKR... but she loved the book, and she's super picky, too!
Selection was a fail. I gave it 2 *. I dislike reality TV and this is just like it. Add barely any dystopia and love triangle, and nope. It reads really well but that's all.
Same for Shatter me. Overly romantic, barely dystopian, and so heavily purple prosey it was weird. I wanna finish but slowly. - August 12, 2014 at 5:59 PM

I've read The Casual Vacancy and it was okay for me. It wasn't bad but didn't wow me either. I definitely understand why it will be a miss or hit for every type of readers. And I think that you've made a good decision for not reading it.
I actually liked the Maze Runner series but I am not so sure if my opinion would be the same if I'm going to do a re-read. I've also read Shatter Me and I really liked it. I just ignored the weirdo prose and exaggerated number of strike outs. The plots and the characters (except for the female MC) were really interesting. - August 16, 2014 at 5:02 AM
